Padilla Fumas are rolled at Tabacalera Aguilar In Danli Honduras for the boutuique firm Padilla Cigar Company, founded in 2003 by Ernesto Padilla.
A Cuban American who was born in Havana and moved to the U.S.A. where he grew up. The brand Padilla was created by him in memory of his father Herberto Padilla who was humiliated by the Castro regime for writing anti-government poetry.
Originally a graphic artist, he learnt his trade at Tabacalera Perdomo, where he worked in marketing. Today he has a factory in Esteli producing premium cigars, but this value line is outsourced to Honduras.
The range uses mixed filler from leaf that's left over from making their premium long filler lines in Esteli, keeping prices reasonable, this is still a good cigar for the price.
The Padilla Fumas Robusto begins with a good looking Honduran Habanos wrapper leaf. Small batch short length Nicaraguan and Honduran filler leaves are kept in place by a longer binder leaf. Measuring 5" x 50 ring gauge and an average smoking time of 50 minutes there's time to relax.
The choice of leaf results in a cigar with rich coffee notes with leather, dark chocolate and a little spice. There's also some woodiness and vanilla, which adds to the overall character.
An affordable everyday budget cigar, and well worth trying.
